Thandai powder is an assorted mix of nuts like almonds and cashew with seeds like Melon seeds, sunflower seeds, etc. A choice of Indian spices is also added such as Cardamom, Saffron, Peppercorns, Fennel seeds, and dried rose petals among others.
Then everything is grounded into a fine powder which is then mixed with milk to make this Holi special drink. For people like me who aren’t a big fan of milk-based beverages, this Thandai powder Mug Cake recipe is perfect.
How to make instant Thandai Powder at home?
To begin with, let’s check out the ingredients required to make instant Thandai powder recipe at home:
- 6 nos. Almonds
- 1 tsp Poppy Seeds
- 1 tbsp Melon Seeds
- 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
- 1/2 tsp Peppercorns
- 6 nos. Cashew
- 4 Green Cardamom
- 1/2 tsp Dried Rose petals
- A pinch of Saffron
To make the homemade instant Thandai powder, mix all the ingredient together and grind them into a fine powder. You will roughly get 1/3rd cup of the mix.

Required Ingredients :
- 1/3 cup Thandai Mix
- 2 tbsp Maida
- 1 tbsp Cornflour
- 2 tbsp Sugar Granulated
- 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 Egg
- 2 tbsp Nutri Zero Cholesterol Soyabean Oil
- 2 tbsp Milk
- A couple drops of Rose extract
Method of Cooking
- Whisk the eggs till it is fluffy. Add the sugar and Nutri Zero Cholesterol Soyabean Oil and whisk well.
- Sieve the Maida, Cornflour, Baking Powder and Baking Soda together.
- Add the dry ingredient into the egg mix along with Thandai powder and Rose extract.
- Loosen the cake better with milk. Now pour the batter in the mugs and bake in a pre-heated oven at 170c for 20-24 minutes.
- You may top the cake with sliced almonds and melon seeds for garnishing purpose.
